Soros is unique because he has faced such discrimination that he fights against firsthand. Being born in Hungary and present during the Nazi occupation has contributed to his compassion for this cause. Experiencing firsthand the genocide of over 500,000 Hungarian Jews only strengthened his determination to make the world a better place. These included such things as securing false identity papers, concealing their backgrounds, and helping others in danger do the same.
